On Movement

We are smarter and more advanced in our understanding of the connection of physical activity and overall well-being, yet people are still skinny-fat, cross-fit “fit”, and injuring themselves with an all-or-nothing approach.

Today, there is no shortage of options for developing and maintaining physical fitness. Whether you want to feel great, look great, or be great, there is an option for you. However, the more experts have evolved in their understanding of the human body the more fad-driven fitness becomes obsolete.

We are smarter and more advanced in our understanding of the connection of physical activity and overall well-being, yet people are still skinny-fatcross-fit “fit”, and injuring themselves with an all-or-nothing approach.

However, underlying boutique-fitness has been the constant hum of effective body-weight workouts. The workouts that people turn to when they are over-worked, over-stressed, and just need to re-balance. The philosophy behind body-weight workouts is nothing if not common sense. It is moving the body in ways that naturally increases strength, flexibility, and stamina.

While these workouts used to consist of squats and pull-ups, they are now based on the study of the natural movement patterns of babies and animals. Common sense is the foundation of movement practices that are designed for how our bodies should be able to function. Not just in terms of rote overhead strength or a fast 5k, but in terms of form and faculty for every-day excellence.

At Via we believe that the body is capable of much more than we know. We also believe that movement should advance well-being rather than create stress and injury. Most of all we believe that regularity is key to continued, long-term, well-being.
